NEW DELHI | 8 May, 2025 — The GEAPP Leadership Council (GLC) today officially announced the launch of India's first utility-scale, standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project, the largest of its kind in South Asia.
This landmark project, developed in partnership with Alfanar Projects, represents one of the largest BESS deployments in the Middle East and will play a pivotal role in advancing Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 by enhancing grid stability and renewable energy integration.
The facility, known as Chilca-BESS, is made up of 84 cabinets of lithium-ion batteries. Now in commercial operation, it is the largest energy storage system of its kind in Peru, according to the Peruvian ministry of energy and mining.
